Mission 4 to Mississippi (MS4), Sept. 30-Oct. 6, 2007

During the first week of October 2007, the fourth mission team from St. Philip's went to Ocean Springs, Mississippi, to participate in the hurricane recovery effort headquartered at Camp Victor.

The MS4 Team
L. to r., Kelly, Clay, Jay (back), Jackie (front), David, Dorothy, Sarah, Rich, Maureen, Eleanor, Pam

On the pages linked below you will find a multi-part photo essay about team and individual experiences during the week. The photographers were David, Dorothy, Sarah, Eleanor, Maureen, and Pam, plus, in the case of the group photo above, Camp Victor staff member John Fitzpatrick.

This was a richly rewarding experience for all of us, and, like others who have made this journey before us, we look forward to returning to Mississippi to continue the work there. The hard fact is that, over two years after Katrina, much work remains to be done, and it's essentially all being done by volunteers. This is not a "closed shop" -- anyone reading this can be part of a mission team, whether sponsored by a church, a civic club, a neighborhood, or just a group of folks who want to help. If you're not already connected through St. Philip's, visit the Camp Victor site for everything you need to know. Your help will be appreciated!

Prayer for Rescue, Recovery, Rebuilding

O gracious God, we will never understand the sorrows of the world, but by your grace we will not turn away from them.  Renew and sustain in us the spirit of love that crosses miles.  Cheer and encourage those who labor to help the injured, the homeless, the hungry and those in despair.  Bless and soften the hearts of those who would take advantage of tragedy to their own profit, that they may come to know where true joy is to be found.  Unite us in prayer with all those who look for help, and use us to come speedily to them with the things that they need.  We ask these things in your own most holy Name.  Amen

Prayer by the Rev. Barbara C. Crafton
